Summer Maple Berry Oatmeal

I am always on the lookout for healthy, quick ideas for breakfast.  We eat a lot of eggs in our home, but every once in a while I need something we can grab and go.  I found this post over on Pinterest and was intrigued with the idea of refrigerator oatmeal.  You make big batches ahead of time and pull them out of the fridge as needed.  The recipe online uses skim milk and nonfat yogurt, but I changed it a bit to incorporate our raw milk and yogurt.  It is super quick to make, delicious, and a soon to be summer staple.  Enjoy!

Summer Maple Berry Refrigerator Oatmeal

Ingredients….for one jar
Pint size mason jars with lids
1/2 cup Rolled Oats (not the quick oats)
1/2 cup Raw Milk
1/2 cup Raw Yogurt
1 1/2 Tablespoons Organic Maple Syrup ( you can increase or decrease depending on your taste)
Handful of berries…you choose

-Place oats, yogurt, milk, and maple syrup in the mason jar.
-Put the lid on and give it a good shake
-Add berries and stir
-Put lid back on and place in fridge overnight
-Add more berries or nuts when you are ready to serve
-No need to heat it up...it is meant to be served cold!

I was skeptical about trying this recipe....cold oatmeal?  You will be surprised!  It is creamy...almost porridge like and really refreshing.  It really fills you up and very portable.  This recipe is going to be great for camping this summer.

I made a bunch ahead of time for the week.  I like using pint size jars because the mixture will bulk up after its overnight soaking and I always need extra space to add a few more goodies.  The oatmeal will last for 4-5 days in the fridge.

I am in love with the maple berry flavor, but I think next time I will try something with brown sugar and bananas or honey and strawberries.  This is really a choose your own adventure type of meal!   porraige 015
As always, thanks for stopping by Throwback Road and have a great day.
