Things are moving right along here at Throwback Road. I can feel that gardening season is almost in full effect. My days are becoming increasingly filled with garden chores and time on the computer has been less and less. We are in the ramp up stage building the last of my raised beds, getting my soil order planned (we have to do that in the suburbs), starting more seeds, and finalizing the last of my garden design. My pepper, eggplant and cabbage starts are doing great! I planted then on 3/4/2012 and so far they seem to be thriving. A few of my pepper plants started to turn slightly yellow which is probably due to overwatering…Mr. G went a little crazy while I was in Virginia. Can’t get mad at the guy for taking his job so seriously.
I started my tomatoes at the beginning of the week and hopefully will be moving the little guys under lights starting this weekend. My mouth was watering as I was planting each delicious variety…salsa, soup, sauce, YUMMY!
I believe the reason I am planting so many tomatoes this year is so I can make an obnoxious amount of my favorite Carrot Tomato Soup from Soulemama. I made it for the first time last year and have been dreaming of it ever since we ate the last jar in January.
I hope that your garden ramp up is going well or if you live in a warmer climate than Colorado that your gardening season is progressing. The days are getting warmer…there is a consistent amount of dirt under my nails…flip flops are on. This girl could not be happier!
What is going on in your garden this time of year?

Your seeds look amazing! Way to grow:)
ReplyDeleteI would love to know what system of grow lights you use. I am thinking of making the purchase, but I am completely lost. What brands did you buy? Any comments on what to consider. I know when I try something new, I always learn so much by the wrong things/ways. I would love to hear your advice.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the blog!
Michele
What a cool, cool blog you have!
ReplyDeleteWe are almost done building our house, and I really wanted a garden. Our neighbor was nice enough to till (plow?) one up for us. But we're not quite moved in yet, and I haven't done a thing with it... may just be pumpkins this year if I don't hurry! ;)
Michele...here is the link to my post on what I used for my grow system http://www.throwbackroad.com/2012/02/if-you-build-itthey-will-grow.html If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)
ReplyDeleteor you can click on the GROW tab at the top and then choose the post that says DIY light system...thanks everyone for the kind words!! I appreciate it more then you know :)
ReplyDeleteLove your photos! We are in Autumn here in Australia, but my 4 big wicking worm garden beds are full of cool season seedlings... hopefully growing as much as they can, in the last of the warm days. I have raspberries and edamame (soybeans) coming in now, but that's it. I have Scarlet Runner Beans & Purple King Beans and a few Rattlesnake Beans that are fattening & drying on the vines to store for Winter.
